Google Real Time Search Launched

Google search results will now include up-to-the-minute relevant links with Google Real Time Search. The new service, launched and announced on Monday, does not replace the standard Google search, it is an additional service embedded within it.

Google Real Time Search results will include messages and status updates from social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. The three mentioned networking sites have partnered with Google to feed status updates and content users have labeled as public into Google Real Time Search.

The real-time results are not limited just to status updates from the three big social networking sites. Google Real Time Search will also include relevant links from news sites, blogs and other social networks.

When a Google search is performed, a section of results is now labeled “Latest Results.” Relevant results will scroll through as they become available. Google Real Time Search even allows customization. Results can be filtered to real-time only or limited to just micro-blogging results (from sites such as Twitter).

Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, released real-time search results in October that were primarily focused on Twitter. Yahoo! is also making strides in this area. But in one announcement, Google has outdone its search engine competition.

This technology also powers a new option in the Google Trends service. The “hot topics” option on Google Trends now displays the most popular topics online at any given time.

Google will gradually roll out this functionality, but for now it is only available in the English language. Google Real Time Search will also be available on the iPhone and Android mobile devices.
