
Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey was named Designer of the Year and ten other fashion figures received honors at the British Fashion Awards Wednesday night. Burberry also received the Designer Brand Award.
Kate Moss received the London 25 award, created in celebration of 25 years of British fashion to recognize an individual who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for its industry. The award is decided entirely by public vote.
Last year the British Fashion Council and Swarovski created the Swarovski Emerging Talent Awards for Ready-to-Wear and Accessories to recognize and financially reward designers as they establish their business. Wednesday night Peter Pilotto received the Ready-to-Wear award and Holly Fulton the Accessories.
The Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator went to Grace Coddington, Creative Director of Vogue US. Coddington grew up in the UK, started her fashion career there and was the Fashion Director of British Vogue. She moved to the United States to work for American Vogue in 1988.
The Accessory Designer Award went to Kate Hillier. Hillier just launched her own line, available in February 2010 after working with Marc by Marc Jacobs, Luella, House of Holland and Samantha Thavasa.
Christopher Jones received the British Collection of the Year Award as a British designer whose last two collections stirred a lot of press attention and sales. In 2009 he was also signed by Donatella Versace to put his youthful stamp on the Versace label in Milan.
The Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design went to John Galliano who is revered globally for his romantic designs on the runway and red carpet. His most recent work was at Givenchy and Christian Dior.
Kim Jones received the Menswear Designer award and Georgia May Jagger, star of the Spring 2010 Versace Campaign, received the Model Award.
