
Google Chrome has officially surpassed Apple’s Safari to become the third most used Web browser worldwide, according to a report released by Net Applications, a Web metrics provider.
The current data states Chrome has 4.63 percent of the Web browser market share and Safari 4.46 percent. This comes just after Chrome released its first version for Apple users in December.
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still holds a strong lead in worldwide market share at 62.69 percent overall. Mozilla’s Firefox follows at number with 24.61 percent.
Net Applications also reports that Apple’s iPhone had a big jump in mobile operating system market share in December.
Google’s Chrome is now in its second year of operation and has released beta versions for Mac and Linux users.
