Oprah's Director Names Favorite Budget Jeans

Oprah has proudly declared CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans her favorite, but her “O Magazine” creative director Adam Glassman has named Lee Jeans the favorite budget jean.

Like Oprah’s favorite CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans, these Lee jeans are designed for women with real curves. The Lee jeans smooth the front and make a woman look longer and leaner. The Lee jeans come in three styles: trouser, boot cut and straight leg.

Glassman says, on the Oprah Web site, one of the keys to a flattering jean for women with curvy figures is the color. A dark wash will always be the most flattering.

Jeans with lighter parts, often called whiskering, will draw attention to those parts of your body. Keep that in mind. Glassman recommends the Lee trouser-cut jeans because they are a nice even dark wash.

Another key to finding a great jean for women with curves is to pay attention to the back pockets, says Glassman. He suggests on the Oprah Web site to look for pockets that are no smaller than your fist. Unless you want to build up your backside, make sure the pocket lays flat. If you do want to build up your backside, look for the pocket with flaps and details.

Glassman says the pockets on the back of the boot-cut pair of Lee jeans are just right.

The Lee jeans have a lot of similar features to Oprah’s, favorite CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans to fit a curvy woman better. The Lee jeans also have no-gap technology to avoid showing a woman’s underwear in the back. Where the CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans have a silk-lined waistband, the Lee jeans have hidden elastic in the waistband. Both options make for a comfortable fit, Glassman says on the Oprah Web site.

The straight leg jean, as well as the trouser and boot-cut jeans, are very comfortable, says Glassman.

The Lee jeans are only $42 and available at many stores.
