SAS Tops Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For List

At a time when American job satisfaction is at an all-time low, Fortune has named 100 companies where the employees should be pretty satisfied. Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list was released Thursday morning and the privately-held software company, SAS, tops the list.

SAS has made the 100 Best Companies to Work For list all 13 years Fortune has made it, but this was the first time it took the number one spot. SAS boasts a laundry list of benefits, including: high-quality child care at $410/month, 90% coverage of the health insurance premium, unlimited sick days, a non-cost medical center for employees staffed with four physicians and 10 nurse practitioners, a free 66,000 square-foot fitness center and indoor swimming pool, a lending library and a summer camp for children.

Not surprisingly, turnover at SAS is the lowest in the software industry, at a mere 2 percent.

Within the Fortune report, you can see how the companies rank within specific areas such as size, pay and perks. For instance, Edward Jones, ranked number two overall, is the best large company to work for, Deloitte, number 70, is the most telecommuting-friendly employer and Nugget Market, number five, pays 100 percent of their employees’ health care premiums.

Twelve companies have joined SAS on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For every year since its inception in 1998. Cisco, ranked number 16 overall in 2010, and Nordstorm, ranked number 53 overall, are two of the companies that have made the list every year.

Some companies on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list offer rather unusual perks. Marriott International , ranked number 82 overall, offers home-buying assistance. S.C. Johnson, ranked number 83 overall, offers concierge services and Ernst & Young, number 44, offers same-sex partner benefits.

Edward Jones, Wegmans Food Market, Google and Nugget Market round out the top five of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For.
