Martha Stewart, America's favorite homemaker, announced Tuesday she is making a new home at the Hallmark Channel. Her show is moving from NBC.
Starting in September, Stewart’s “The Martha Stewart Show” will kick off a two-and-half-hour block of original Martha Stewart programming on the Hallmark Channel. The flag-ship how-to show will air from 10 to 11 am Eastern and will continue to be taped in New York City in front of a live studio audience, according to a Hallmark Channel news release.
Following “The Martha Stewart Show,” new and original Martha Stewart programming will air from 11 to 12:30pm Eastern. The programming is currently under development and is said to feature well-known experts and personalities known from “The Martha Stewart Show.”
In addition, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc., the business operations company for Martha Stewart, will be developing numerous holiday and interview specials for primetime on the Hallmark Channel, according to the news release.
“This is a match made in TV heaven. We couldn’t be more excited about welcoming Martha Stewart to the Hallmark Channel family,” said Bill Abbott, President and CEO of Hallmark Channels, in a news release.
“We believe the creative programming, branding and advertising opportunities this partnership presents are limitless.”
The New York Times reports that “The Martha Stewart Show” will be repeated twice a day on the Hallmark Channel, once at 4 pm Eastern and again at 5pm Eastern. Between the two-and-half hour block and the repeats, Stewart will own about half of the Hallmark Channel’s daytime programming.
“I’m delighted that we have found the perfect home for the kind of programming that consumers look to us for, a home that is devoted to excellence, family life and celebrations – what we call Living,” said Stewart in a news release. “Our core values and content areas - entertaining, weddings, crafting, cooking, gardening, holidays, pets and humor - are a perfect fit with Hallmark Channel.”
Other Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia programming includes “Essence of Emeril,” “Emeril Live” and “Emeril Green.” The Hallmark Channel, and its sister network, Hallmark Movie Channel, reaches a national audience of over 90 million.
“The Martha Stewart Show” is currently in its fifth season and airs on NBC, prior to its move to the Hallmark Channel.
