Amanda Knox verdict rendered, sentenced to 26 years

Amanda Knox is an American exchange student that was studying in Italy. Knox was on trial for the murder of her roommate, who was found in a pool of blood with her throat slit. Italian authorities charged the 22 year old with murder and today her verdict was rendered.

The verdict is in and Amanda Knox has been found guilty of the murder of British student Meredith Kercher. Amanda Knox is sentenced to 26 years in jail. Italian authorities sought life, which is the stiffest sentence in the country.

Amanda Knox maintains her innocence. Her parents think that she is the victim of character assassination, and have stated that they will fight for her.

The prosecution painted Amanda Knox as a type of she-devil that clashed with her roommates. She was accused of growing to hate her roommate, and then murdered her.

Amanda Knox's boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was found guilty as well and sentenced to 25 years. After the verdicts were rendered after 13 hours of deliberations, Knox and Sollecito were taken back to jail.

The Amanda Knox verdict lays to rest a case that has been pending for nearly two years. Unfortunately for Amanda Knox, she will spend most of her life behind bars.
