MasterCard Worldwide announced that Rabba Fine Foods, Your Neighbourhood Marketplace, will begin accepting MasterCard® PayPass™ at its 30 stores across the Greater Toronto Area.
Rabba customers will be able to purchase great food and a host of other items by simply tapping their PayPass-enabled MasterCard card on a specially equipped payment terminal. Contactless payment technology, powered by MasterCard PayPass, provides consumers with a quick and convenient alternative to cash for their everyday small purchases, without the hassle of fumbling for cash or handing a card over to the cashier.
"With our extensive selection of fine foods and 24-hours-a-day service, convenience is our creed,"Â said Victor Rabba, CEO, Rabba Fine Foods. "MasterCard PayPass will help speed our customers through the checkout, giving them a faster and simpler way to buy their groceries, morning coffee, or midnight snack."Â
Contactless payment cards feature an embedded computer chip and radio frequency antennae. After cardholders tap their card on the reader, the card securely transmits payment details wirelessly. Account details are communicated directly to the special reader and are then processed through MasterCard's highly trusted acceptance network in the normal manner. Moments after consumers tap the reader with their card they receive payment confirmation and are on their way. There are more than 11 million PayPass cards and devices in circulation worldwide.
MasterCard PayPass is ideal for traditionally cash-heavy environments where prompt customer service is essential, such as quick service restaurants, drug stores, gas stations, vending machines, convenience stores, sports arenas, movie theatres, transit systems and parking garages.
"MasterCard PayPass is quickly becoming a favourite among merchants because contactless payments are simpler and faster than cash, thereby speeding consumers through the payment process,"Â said Nagesh Devata, Vice President, Acceptance Development and Product Solutions, MasterCard Canada. "Our research shows that PayPass cardholders display progressive loyalty to PayPass merchants and use their PayPass-enabled cards more often than traditional payment cards."Â
