Android Smartphones Dominating Market Share

Android market shares are on the rise. Androids are smartphones based on Google's operating system. The shares are soaring above other smartphones that are actually losing market share, like Apple's iPhone and Microsoft-based smart phones. The numbers are based on comScore's market trend research from November 2009 to February 2010. Google is officially taking over the technological world.

The report ranks the mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) rather than separate cell phones. The age of the mobile subscribers included in the research that revealed the Android market share boom began at 13 years old. Not to say 13-year-olds are responsible for Google-based operating systems being more successful, but Google is obviously on the right track when it comes to beating mobile markets.

The report states that 45.4 million people in the U.S. owned a smartphone during the time the data was taken. The Smartphone Platform Market Share trends list reveals RIM is on the top of the list with a 1.3 percent increase from November to February. The Android market share increased by a whopping 5 percent, which is huge compared to the losses.

Apple who is the OEM of the infamous iPhone lost 0.1 percent from November to February, but still comprises 25.4 percent of the market. RIM, who is responsible for BlackBerry smartphones comprises 42.1 percent of the market. Android market shares are ranked fourth, but their increase from 3.8 percent to 9 percent was significant.

Mobile phones evolved significantly since their inception into popular culture over the past two decades. Flip phones, Razors, Palm Pilots, T-Mobile flip phones and BlackBerries had all their heyday in mobile market trends. The onset of the iPhone was monumental and another successful venture for Apple, who is also known for their Mac computers, iPads, iPods and iTouches.

Google has gone through its own evolutions since the onset of the internet in the nineties. The Google name is synonymous with internet searching, browsing and emailing. The Android market share 5.2 percent increase is a sign that Google-based mobile phone systems could be the next big thing, or bigger thing, considering that 3.8 percent of 45.4 million people is quite significant.
