Mega band U2 continues to bring in the dollars. According to Pollstar.com, U2 placed first in the 50-artist list of top tours for 2009. They grossed a total of $123 million touring alone in North America and they sold over 1 million tickets. They will begin the second half of their 360˚ Tour in June.

Not surprisingly, the legendary band topped the list, which ranks artists according number of tickets sold and average box office gross per city. Others on the list include Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band who came in second; Metallica, ranking third, and fourth teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus.

This was in November. Luckily, tour promoter Live Nation just recently announced the sale of even more tickets.

The 360˚ Tour was conceived to be the largest concert tour in history to commit to a net zero emissions goal. MusicMatters, a leader in creating environmentally friendly music tours and festivals, is the tour’s official Environmental Advisor.

U2’s front man, Bono is a well-known activist and humanitarian. His efforts to bring awareness to Africa has resulted in the creation the ONE Campaign, a non-profit organization, as well as Product Red, a brand licensed to major companies that contributes profits to help people in need in Africa.

Most recently, Bono and U2's The Edge have joined in the The Hope for Haiti telethon and concert that will air this Friday. They will join the likes of Beyonce, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and many more in trying to raise money for the Haitian relief effort. The event will air on all major networks, and will reach 640 million homes worldwide.

U2 is also set to record a charity song to benefit victims of the Haitian earthquake. They join Simon Cowell, Jay-Z, and Lionel Richie in make releasing charity tracks.

Although presale tickets have ended, ticket providers are expected to open up more sales as the tour dates draw nearer for those venues that have sold out. A number of cities still have public sale available. Find out about tour dates and venues here.
