Nadal, Tsonga's Favorite Tennis Racquet Up for Sale

What do tennis greats Rafael Nadal of Spain and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France have in common? They both use the same brand of tennis racquet, the famed Aeropro Drive from French company Babolat. The two are currently using the tennis racquet while playing at the Australian Open.

Think of what makes a tennis player great. Surely, it is the precise movement, the swift and skilled reading of and opponent’s every last gesture, along with rigorous training on and off the court, and a little sass doesn’t hurt either. However, in reality the equipment helps too. For many, the tennis racquet of choice is made by Babolat.

Babolat makes a variety of tennis, badminton, and squash racquets. The company was originally founded in 1875 in Lyon, France. Its specialty was and continues to be strings. In fact, the company’s first set of strings was made from natural gut. The company focused on strings until 1994 when it began producing racquet frames as well. By 2000, the company had moved from Europe to Japan and finally to the United States where it rapidly grew.

Its popularity grew so rapidly that all the great names in tennis including Roddick, Clijsters, Moya, and Wozniacki and many more use them. The latest line of tennis racquets from Babolat is the Aeropro Drive, which is currently being sported by Tsonga and Nadal in the Australian Open.

The Aeropro Drive by Babolat features state of the art technology that takes into consideration aerodynamics, spin and form. This allows players to get the maximum play out of their equipment. The company currently produces a number of types of tennis racquets including the latest Aeropro Drive, which will go on sale for public consumption shortly.

In tennis news, the Semifinals of the Australian Open begins Thursday in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. Rafael Nadal had to be taken out of the game early due to a knee injury. Third-ranked Novak Djokovic recently lost to Tsonga who will be auctioning off a signed Babolat racquet himself. Serena Williams is looking to defeat Li Na who defeated Serena’s sister Venus earlier in the tournament.

Consumers can visit Babolat’s website for further information on the Aeropro Drive racquet. It is black with yellow stripes and provides the most racquet head speed due to its patented Aero-modular technology. The racquet weighs 10.6 oz and costs approximately $300 USD. It will go on sale February 1, 2010.
