Interior Designer Speaks About The Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept

The 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan saw the debut of the Cadillac XTS Platinum concept car. I had a chance to speak with the XTS's interior designer, Christine Park, and she gave me some insight into her design. Some of the themes Christine hoped to achieve with the Cadillac XTS Platinum concept's interior include the following: Elegant, luxurious, clean, and mature.

Christine used the orchid flower as an inspiration for the design. She views the orchid as having no unnecessary elements: Different petals coming together to create a beautiful, harmonious flower. Padding, wood, chrome, and padding again help to create multiple layering inside the sedan. The door release handle is shaped like an orchid that has been sandwiched between materials.

Christine wanted to create a feeling of spaciousness, pulling away the dash from the driver to enhance roominess. The wood is furniture quality and used add extra detail. For example, in the front seats, there is a wood inlay. This uncommon feature is meant to imply that the perhaps the entire backing structure could be wood.

Comfort is key in a vehicle like the XTS with padding on every surface that you may touch, such as padding on the center console so that your knee will not bump into something hard.

For Christine's take on the concept's interior, please view the video interview included with this story.

General Motors covered my expenses so that I could attend the Detroit Auto Show.
