Hynes Concedes, Quinn Democratic Nominee for Illinois Governor

The Illinois Primary was held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 but some of the races have been so close and hotly contended that the votes are still being counted. The governor's race is a major issue, with contenders trying to unseat incumbent Pat Quinn, Democrat, who was appointed to the office after Rod Blagojevich was impeached.

It came down to two democratic contenders in the race, Dan Hynes and Pat Quinn. On Thursday morning, February 4, 2010, Dan Hynes conceded the race to Pat Quinn. Therefore the Democratic candidate for the office of Illinois governor is incumbent Pat Quinn.

The Republication candidate for governor has yet to be announced, as the votes between Senator Bill Brady, of Bloomington, and Senator Kirk Dillard, of Hinsdale, are very close. In fact, there may be a recount because the votes are only about 400 apart. The race for Republican nominee is a close one, but is now down to two candidates, out of seven who threw their hats into the ring for the office. Republican candidates included Adam Adrezejewski, Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard, Any McKenna, Dan Proft, Jim Ryan and Bob Schillerstrom.

In the race for the U.S. Senate seat that had been vacated by Barack Obama when he was elected president, the nominees are Illinois Republican Mark Kirk and Illinois Democrat Alexi Giannoulias.

The U.S. Senate Sear of Illinois was one of the reasons that former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was charged with Federal corruption. Allegedly, Blagojevich attempted to sell the seat vacated by Obama for personal gain. Roland Burris was appointed to the seat to finish the term, put is retiring and did not run for another term as senator.
