Chicago Flower and Garden Show Unveils Theatre Theme

The Chicago Flower & Garden Show raises the curtain on 'theatrical' gardens, a 'street scape' and a horticultural competition on Navy Pier on Chicago's lakefront. The show runs from Saturday, March 6 through Sunday, March 14, 2010.

The 2010 Chicago Flower & Garden Show is blooming on Chicago's Navy Pier from March 6 – 14, 2010. The Midwest's premier gardening exhibition has exhibits and educational opportunities for professional landscapers and home gardeners alike. The Flower and Garden Show is a terrific place to find inspirations for home garden designs.

The theme of the 2010 garden show is “Cultivating Great Performances,” underscoring Chicago’s reputation as a great theater town. Artistic garden environments are being created by professionals, celebrating some of Chicago's best known theatres. The garden environments are celebrating the Goodman Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. The environments fuse the drama of the stage with the artistry of horticulture. Iconic stage plays providing the inspiration from the garden include 'Wicked,' 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' and 'Miss Saigon.'

The new floor layout for the garden show is designed by Terry Guen Design Associates, an acclaimed landscape architecture and urban design firm based in Chicago. The firm's projects include Millennium Park and the Chicago Riverwalk. They have added a meandering boulevand punctuated by cul de sacs to the design.

The show features 25 gardens designed by top gardening and landscaping companies. There is also a vendor Marketplace displaying garden and green products and the services of over 125 exhibitors.

The show is sponsored by Belgard Hardscapes, a nationwide network of paving stone and garden wall products manufacturers, and produced by Special Events Management with the support of the Mayor’s Office of Special Events and of Navy Pier.
