Danica Patrick's NASCAR debut at Daytona

Auto racer Danica Patrick will be taking to the starting line for her NASCAR debut this weekend in Daytona at the Nationwide Series race. The 27-year-old Danica, who turned heads with her racy GoDaddy.com Super Bowl commercials, is hoping for a trophy performance at the Daytona International Speedway.

The decision to include Danica on the Daytona track came after officials analyzed prior race situations. Once the move was made, it was decided Danica would take control behind the wheel of the No. 7 Chevrolet.

“I think she can do it,” crew chief Tony Eury Jr. told Indystar.com. “We’re ready to go.”

As for her big debut, Danica says she's also ready to race.

"Racing in the Nationwide Series race was my goal during this entire two-month preparation process, but we wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do," Patrick said in a statement to the media. "The ARCA race was a blast," she said of her most recent roll. Adding, "I'm not ready for my first Daytona Speedweeks to end just yet. I want more racing."

Patrick was originally scheduled to make her Nationwide series debut on February 20 in the Sunshine state, but after setting high standard in the above-mentioned ARCA race, the team has decided to put her to the test this weekend.
