With the advent of Social Media, we as travelers have hundreds or possibly thousands of contacts from around the globe. Those contacts are as close as our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Social Media is to world traveling as steamed lobster is to hot drawn butter. As you look through your Twitter followers or followees, or your Facebook friends, you may over look your next great travel adviser if you do not utilize this medium for your next trip.
For instance, let's say you are traveling from where ever your home is to the beautiful destination of Aruba. Well, simply change your status to; "I am going to Aruba, what is the best beach?" Well you may get simply comments to your post or actual replies. Now for Twitter, simply answer the question, What are you doing ? with; "@aruba going there and want steak, any recos?". At this point, @aruba may reply directly or you may get many @replies from followers or followees with advice.
The Internet has been used for years to book air/hotel, do research on where and what to eat or where not and what not to eat as well. Now, social media has added an extra layer for you to sift through. That layer however may be filled with family and trusted friends and colleagues and will lack the anonymity that the commercial sites will have.
Also keep in mind that many hotels, whether chains or small bed and breakfasts may have their own Twitter accounts and Facebook fan pages where they will post specials, deals and advice.
The search is on, Tweet your destination, change your Facebook status, and let the personal advice come in.
