There are many convictions that may be overlooked and forgotten, a single DUI perhaps, shoplifting, and other non violent and victimless crimes. Luring a teen to you, cutting her child out of her womb, leaving her to die and claiming the baby as yours, is not one of those crimes. It is violent, there is a victim and violates society just as rape would.
Andrea Curry-Demus was found guilty but mentally ill of second degree murder. The victim is 18-year-old victim, Kia Johnson, of McKeesport PA.
The newly convicted Curry-Demers will be formally sentenced in March, but the second-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life prison sentence without parole. She will serve part of her sentence in a prison mental hospital. She will then be moved to a traditional prison environment once deemed mentally improved by Doctors.
Darlene Lee, the victims mother told Fox News that she hopes "Curry-Demus gets no peace in prison and that she sees her daughter when she lays down in the bed to go to sleep at night, when she wakes up in the morning."
Prosecutor Mark Tranquilli was able to get the conviction by introducing evidence such as "After getting Johnson to her Wilkinsburg apartment, Curry-Demus drugged her, bound her with duct tape and cut the baby from her. She wrapped Johnson's body in more tape, plastic wrap and bags and a comforter before stuffing it in a space behind Curry-Demus' bed.
Curry-Demus then told her sister, who lived across the hall, that she had just given birth. Her story began to unravel after hospital tests showed she wasn't the mother. She initially told police she bought the baby from a crack addict for $1,000, but police found Johnson's body after people began reporting a stench coming from her apartment."
As with any crimes of this nature, it is disturbing that this has actually come to be. We have come so far in discoveries, technology and politics, only to have a set back such as this, time and time again.
