Microsoft to develop tablet

Apple is expected on Wednesday to release their much anticipated tablet that was announced last year and recently showcased at the CES in Las Vegas earlier this month. As far as Microsoft is concerned, Apple should be watching their back, or all they will see is Microsoft's back.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer actually showcased a first edition prototype HP tablet powered by Windows 7 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

There is a difference in marketing styles and objectives though. As easily as Apple sells direct to consumers or through their stores, Microsoft, having no retail fronts will look into strategic agreements with various partners like Hewlett-Packard and Acer. There are no plans for a true "Microsoft" brand tablet.

There is no release date, or any other dates in the development of this new product. Fear not though, Microsoft does not play well with others, nor do they like second best, whether it's market share or consumer rating.

Should this actually go to production and go to market, we can expect as consumers to see a price and feature war, with no clear winner except the consumer. Keep an eye out, the two tech war foes may go to it again.
