James Cameron in talks for 'Avatar' sequel

Everyone knows that anxiety ridden Hollywood is sequel happy. Therefore, it's no surprise that after the immense amount of cash that "Avatar" continues to bring in, Fox execs are chomping at the bit to nail down a schedule for “Avatar 2,” or whatever they decide to call it.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Rupert Murdoch, CEO of Fox's parent company, News Corp., let investors know in a recent conference call that they are in "very early talks" with director James Cameron. And mentioned that the director "has ideas" for a sequel.

Cameron will get whatever he wants. If he wants to direct, produce and star in an Avatar sequel the execs at Fox will gladly relent.

The big problem is the release date. Audiences would love to see another Avatar movie now. Cameron took about 15 years to bring his tall blue aliens to the screen, and if he follows suit with the sequel it will be released in the 2020s.

By then 3D will be old hat. Cameron will need holographic imagery and hypno-cinema as a new entertainment technology by then.
