Super Bowl ads are enhanced with social media

In one of the largest television audiences of the year, the Super Bowl is a national holiday for football fans. But even those that don't follow the teams of the gridiron, the advertising for the big game had become must see TV.

Companies are paying the exorbitant fees showcase specially produced ads to the vast amount of viewers on this sports event of the year. To the the advertising business the Super Bowl is the ultimate premiere day, kind of like a film festival for their commercials.

This year companies are using the social media to enhance their Super Bowl ads. Social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and YouTube are being utilized to increase the anticipation for the most expensive advertising venue on the air.

What was traditionally referred to as “word of mouth” now takes place in a significant way on the Internet, and companies are compelled to take advantage of the interactivity that social media offers.

With the major investment in production and air time cost shelled out by advertisers, any cost effective way to increase the effectiveness of the campaign the social media can bring to the table is more than welcome.
