Two separate bomb attacks in southern Afghanistan Wednesday killed five people and injured several others.
A NATO spokesman says a suicide bomber blew up a vehicle at a police checkpoint in the Zahri district of Kandahar province, killing himself and three policemen. Three other policemen were wounded in the attack.
Also in Kandahar, a remote-controlled bomb killed two Afghan security guards working for a U.S. company. Six other guards were wounded.
In another development, U.S. forces say they have captured two suspected al-Qaida militants during a raid in eastern Afghanistan. A military statement says the two Afghan men were taken into custody this Wednesday morning in Nangarhar province.
The statement says coalition forces acted on intelligence about an al-Qaida member known to pass messages to senior leaders of the group. It says the two detained men are being questioned about links to the terrorist organization. - VOA News
