Perhaps the third time will be the charm, because the second one certainly was not: the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 was lost today during its flight.
Launched at 7:45 a.m. PST from Vanderberg Air Force Base in California, the aircraft followed its ancestor into oblivion. In April of 2010, the test flight of the original Falcon Hypesonic Technology Vehicle also ended prematurely. Nine minutes into the flight, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) lost contact with the vehicle.
