SEPTA Union Asks For Binding Arbitration

When Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell camt out of last night's SEPTA transit strike negotiations saying they had come to a tentative agreement, he didn't realize how tentative it was. Transport Workers Union Local 234 has counter-offered, saying they will end their strike, which began as soon as the Phillies left town for the remainder of the world series, if SEPTA agrees to binding arbitration.

Congress just passed an expanded version of the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit that was set to expire on November 30. “The new version of the tax credit has the potential to stimulate the housing market even more than the old version due to the fact that more people will qualify under the new rules,” said Gibran Nicholas, Chairman of the CMPS Institute, an organization that certifies mortgage bankers and brokers.

Jobless Rates Worse, Teen Unemployment 27%

Jobless rates, reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics are worse than expected. Unemployment jumped to 10.2 percent, which is the worse since 1983. U.S. payrolls fell more than expect as well. Tennagers lost the highest amount of jobs in terms of percent.

The $6500 Homebuyer Tax Credit Effective Nov 6

The extension of the home buyer tax credit is official now. The $8,000 home buyer’s tax credit will be extended and the new $6,500 homebuyer’s incentive tax credit will begin. The bill is expected to be signed by President Obama on Friday, November 6, 2009. The same bill also provides a tax break for businesses that lost money, and extends unemployment benefits for another 20 weeks.
