A little known holiday, National Honesty Day was created by M. Hirsh Goldberg, an author and former press secretary to a Maryland governor. Goldberg, came up with the idea for an Honesty Day in the early 1990s, after he had finished writing (ironically, enough) “The Book of Lies”. Goldberg wanted to end April, which begins with a lie – April Fools- in a more positive way, an honest way.
National Honesty Day also reminds Americans of the honesty of its forefathers, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Remember, Washington cut down a cherry tree, but ‘never told a lie’. It also provides a good reason just to be completely honest for a day.
If anything, National Honesty Day encourages personal honesty, which in turn, creates a domino effect and brings out honesty in others. It’s really not a bad thing.
