The technology will transform the sphere into a dynamic, revolving globe that demonstrates the Earth as a living system. Earth Revealed opens at the Museum of Science and Industry on Sept. 14, 2007.
The images projected on the globe are organized into “play lists”—allowing guests to experience a series of different “shows” about, and snapshots of, our planet. Among the topics explored through the sphere are Earth's past and future; Earth’s place in the universe and the origin of the planets; climate, weather, currents, and geophysics; land use patterns; the human impact on the planet; and Earth as a habitat for life.
See Earth’s atmosphere, the flow of our ocean currents, changing cloud cover and the geophysical forces that shape the planet. Walk around the blue orb and view the effects of the Earth’s warming temperatures—including the development of deadly storms such as Hurricane Katrina—and compare and contrast different planets and learn how hospitable they would be to humans.
Museum of Science and Industry education staff will also facilitate a special presentation daily including CO2 and You, a look at what carbon dioxide is and how it affects our planet. The exhibit and presentations are included in Museum general admission.
The Museum of Science and Industry's mission is to inspire the inventive genius in everyone by presenting captivating and compelling experiences that are real and educational. Located at 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, the Museum is open every day of the year except December 25. General admission pricing is $11 for adults, $9.50 for seniors and $7 for children ages 3 to 11. City of Chicago residents receive a discount on general admission.
