Victorian Theatre Announces Universal 1 Variety Series

Victoria Theatre Association has announced the lineup for the second season of the new Universal 1 Variety Series at the Victoria Theatre. The 2008-2009 season brings the popular Off-Broadway hit Alter Boyz to Dayton, along with mentalist Craig Karges and the cutting-edge rhymes of Mayhem Poets.

"As it enters its second season, the Universal 1 Variety Series continues to represent something entirely different for us, reaching a variety of new audiences," says Dione Kennedy, President & CEO of Victoria Theatre Association. "We're very excited about the diverse offerings in store for the 2008-2009 season."

The Universal 1 Variety Series is made possible in part through the continued support of series sponsor Universal 1 Credit Union. Universal 1 Credit Union was founded in 1937 in Dayton and prides itself on being a community-minded organization.

Mayhem Poets - October 30, 2008 - Victoria Theatre

With words, humor and extreme hip-hop energy, the Mayhem Poets take poetry to playful and compelling new heights. Infectious, charged with adrenaline, and utterly entertaining, their riffs are as much Mad Magazine and The Simpsons as Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou. Taking on everything from Dr. Seuss to school to fast food, these beat-boxing bards keep the rapid-fire rhythms flying in this clever concert of words.

Craig Karges: Experience the Extraordinary - January 23, 2009 - Victoria Theatre

As tables float, minds are read and metal bends, you don't just watch Craig Karges, you experience it, through total audience participation. You've seen Craig Karges on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Larry King Live," now see him live at the Victoria Theatre!

Altar Boyz - March 14, 2009 - Victoria Theatre

Altar Boyz is a musical-comedy spoof about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz - five ultra-talented heartthrobs from Ohio - are lead singer Matthew (the pretty-boy hunk), Mark (a sensitive young man with a deep faith in Cher), Luke (a bad-boy with an "interest" in communion wine), Juan (a hot-blooded crooner with a passion for pretty girls) and Abraham (a nice Jewish boy, who's not quite sure how he ended up here). Get ready for satirical fun - and great singing! -- www.victoriatheatre.com
