On August 27, the Imperial War Museum North will be hosting a very special family day, packed full of free lively events, and linked to the popular special exhibition; The Animals' War. Join us for activities throughout the museum, from performances and demonstrations to hands on activities in the exhibition spaces.
Family groups are invited to enjoy a range of HotSpot activities; make your own animal badge, have a go at creating flickbook animations or dress up as your favourite animal! To make the full transformation, face painting will be available throughout the day, as well as colourful airbrush tattoos and balloon modelling. Collect a passport and get it stamped for each of the HotSpot activities you attend, to be given the chance to win a family ticket to upcoming evening event; War Stories with Michael Morpurgo on 2 October. With lots of other prizes for runners up.
And that's not all...
Be sure not to miss out on our popular shadow puppet theatre and get up close to an amazing selection of Birds of prey. Find out more about these fascinating flyers when trained handlers from the Rosliston Forestry Centre demonste the abilities of hawks and falcons that inspired modern aircraft .
For more animal antics, why not visit our current special exhibition The Animals' War? Explore the intriguing and often surprising stories of animals in war- from parachuting dogs and medal-winning pigeons to tales of mine seeking rats and bridge building elephants! Budding explorers can pick up an Animal Trackers leaflet at the Information Desk on arrival and follow our TimeShelter comic characters Max and Tom, as they help youngsters navigate their own route around this bright, family friendly exhibition.
Our WaterShard Cafe will be open all day, pick up lunchtime Ration bags for children, which include animal shaped cookies! Whilst you are in the cafe, don't miss the Forties Flyers, with their special family focused musical performances. -- www.iwm.org.uk
