The Chairman of Qantas Airways Limited, Margaret Jackson, today announced that, following detailed negotiations, the Qantas Board had received a revised proposal from Airline Partners Australia (APA) to acquire 100 percent of the Company for $5.60 cash per share.

Qantas welcomed the return to Australia of the Airbus A380 today. Qantas Executive General Manager, Mr John Borghetti, said the airline remained firmly committed to the A380 as an integral part of its future aircraft fleet.

Following a meeting with US Airways management on December 6, the leadership of the US Airways and
America West pilot groups have expressed significant concerns about the proposed merger with Delta Air Lines. The leaders point out that, by failing to integrate two pilot groups under one contract, US Airways management has not yet properly merged US Airways and America West, demonstrating little chance of completing the merger of a third airline.

The Air Transport Association of America, the industry trade organization representing leading U.S. airlines, is forecasting that approximately 42 million passengers will travel globally on U.S. airlines during the 2006 winter holiday season for the 21-day period from Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, through Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 -- an estimated increase of 2.4 percent compared to the same 21-day period a year earlier.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Mark Vaile, announced today that the Australian Government will introduce enhanced security measures to limit the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels that can be taken through the screening point at airports for international flights.
