Democrat Al Franken won a unanimous ruling from the Minnesota state Supreme Court on Tuesday. The court ruled that Franken should be certified the winner of Minnesota's hotly contested Senate race. Given that, Republican Norm Coleman conceded, ending a nearly eight-month recount and court fight.

Veteran GOP senator Arlen Spector (R-PA), announced on Tuesday his intention to switch parties, to the Democratic party. This brings the Democrats to the brink of a 60-member filibuster-proof majority.

Norm Coleman's attempt to use the court system to reverse the results of the Minnesota Senate election, which shows Al Franken with a narrow lead after the mandatory recount, has been rejected by a three-judge panel.

Seven weeks after the 2008 Election Day, and guess what? We still don't have a race decided: the Minnesota Senate Race between Al Franken and incumbent Norm Coleman. But on Friday, for the first time, Franken moved ahead in the race.
