Amazon Tax Begins Goodbye to the Sales Tax-Free Internet?

On Sunday, June 1st, the so-called "Amazon Tax" goes into effect in New York state. While formerly only retailers with brick-and-mortar stores in a state were required to collect sales tax, New York has enacted a law which forces etailers to collect tax on sales, if they have affiliates which redirect traffic to their sites (e.g., Amazon.com affiliates).

Amazon.com Sues New York Over the Amazon Tax

Amazon.com Says Kindle Is Back

Late last month Amazon.com apologized for delays in Kindle delivery. Their apology said they would in a few weeks be able to offer an "order today, ship today" service on the Kindle. Whether or not they've actually reached that point, Amazon.com has posted a note on their front page today saying Kindles are back in stock.

Amazon.com Starts Its Own Gadget Blog

As if there aren't enough gadget blogs, like Gizmodo, Engadget, Crave, and more, Amazon.com has launched its own gadget blog. The blog, named End User, could possibly be a little self-serving, as most of the posts seem to have links directly to Amazon.com items for sale (no!) and the blog's authors are all Amazon.com employees (double no!).

New York Readies for Its Amazon Tax

The passage of New York's so-called "Amazon Tax," bill, which would force e-tailers to collect sales tax from New Yorkers making purchases, has since been signed, as it set to go into effect on June 1st, bringing in an estimated $50 million in revenue this year and $75 million in 2009.

Amazon Tries to Strong-arm Kindle News Sites

Amazon is trying to scare sites with Kindle in their name who have placed Amazon Associates links or banners on their sites into giving up their domains. I received an email today telling me my Amazon Associate account will be canceled and I will forfeit any revenue from Q1 of 2008 (currently totaling around $45) if I do not contact them to transfer KindleReport.com to Amazon.

NowinStock On Amazon’s Black Friday Wii Early Surprise

NowInStock.net comments on Black Friday, Amazon and Wii games. As I woke up this morning to the check out NowInStock.net’s status, I noticed at 2:58 A.M. this morning Wii alerts were shot off to everyone that Amazon had the Wii in stock. A little surprised and thinking that this might have been an error, I verified my cached snapshot (I store a snapshot every time I see stock available), and sure enough they had stock available!
