Maritime Power: War Journalism In The 17th Century

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Schiphol presents this winter at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol an unique exhibition of paintings and drawings by Willem van de Velde the Elder (1611-1693) and Willem van de Velde the Younger (1633-1707). Father and son Van de Velde produced eye-witness reports of fierce naval battles that took place between the fleets of the Republic of the Seven United Provinces of the Netherlands and England. Their works are some of the earliest examples of war journalism.

Low Life In The Golden Age

From 1 March to 5 June 2007 the Rijksmuseum presents a special exhibition about peasant life in the Netherlands in the Golden Age at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. Works by famous 17th-century artists such as Isaac and Adriaen van Ostade, Jan Steen and Pieter Xavery feature scenes of country life.

Jan Van Der Heyden's Works At Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

In 2007 the Rijksmuseum presents the first monographic exhibition on Jan van der Heyden in the Netherlands since 1937. Van der Heyden was one of the leading 17th-century painters of Dutch cityscapes. He was also fascinated by firefighting and is still remembered to this day by many as the inventor of the fire hose. The Rijksmuseum exhibition focuses on the diversity of Van der Heyden, who became known as the Dutch Leonardo da Vinci.

In collaboration with NRC Handelsblad newspaper, the Rijksmuseum is organising the ninth photography exhibition centred on the annual 'Document Nederland' photography assignment. With the title Bare, hidden poverty in the Netherlands is the theme for this year's exhibition.

Rijksmuseum Concludes Rembrandt Year With Rembrandt Portrait

The Rijksmuseum rounds off Rembrandt's 400th anniversary year with a temporarely presentation of a major work by the artist: his Portrait of Catrina Hooghsaet (1657). Since this painting has been part of a private collection in the United Kingdom for over a hundred years and is rarely lent out, it has remained relatively unknown.

Rijksmuseum Takes Rembrandt On Tour In U.S.

The exhibition Rembrandt and the Golden Age; Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum opened in the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio in the United States. The exhibition was put together by the Rijksmuseum and consists of over 100 paintings and other works of art, including several works by Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Ruysdael and Frans Hals.
