Turkey has positioned itself in a very confusing situation with Armenia. On one hand it pre-signs protocols about normalization of relations with Armenia where there is no single word about linking the process to Armenia's relations to Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh, on the other hand it tells Azerbaijan that unless the issue of Nagorno Karabakh is solved the Turkish Armenian border won't open. Armenian warning to Turkish statements of linking two processes did not delay.

On September 17, during the Iftar dinner, which the PM of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave to Turkish media editors-in-chiefs, he said Turkey would not open its border with Armenia without solution to Nagorno Karabakh problem. He also said that Armenia must be freed from the influence of the powerful diaspora. We asked the Armenian Foreign Ministry to comment on the above, which said that the Turkish PM's comments are not helpful to the process and that genocide survivors must be respected.

In a very rare news article published by one of the top newspapers in Turkey Today's Zaman the author openly speaks about the Armenian Genocide and how they were orchestrated.

Today the president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan met with the leaders of various parties as part of public discussions dedicated to the pre-signing of Armenian Turkey normalization protocols. Recently Armenia reported that despite global economic recession it's tourism industry has actually recorded a modest growth. Compared to the same period of last year in the first six months of 2009 the number of travelers to Armenia for recreation has grown by 0.1 percent.
