Due to his commitment to the health care reform issue, it was reported earlier in the month that President Obama would not be able to travel to Denmark to lend his support to have the US Olympics in Chicago in 2016. It was announced today that he will now travel to Copenhagen to join his wife, Michelle, and urge Olympics organizers to select Chicago to host the 2016 Games.

At the Richmond Times-Dispatch “public square” forum yesterday, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) took questions from his constituents on the health reform debate for the first time this summer. One such constituent, Patricia Churchill, spoke about a close family member, now unemployed and thus uninsured, who is dying of tumors. Cantor suggested that Churchill’s relative seek “existing government programs” or find charity.

Earlier this year, Barack Obama became the first sitting president to appear on the "Tonight Show," when he appeared on the then Jay Leno-hosted show in March. Tonight he will appear on "The Late Show with David Letterman," becoming the first sitting president to appear on that show, as well.

RNC chairman Michael Steele sent out a recent fundraising letter claiming the Democrats are aiming for a "socialist power grab," trying the the familiar GOP scare tactics (many Americans do not understand what socialism really is, or how it differs from communism, and also equate it to becoming a new U.S.S.R.). Today on NBC's "Meet the Press," House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) was blunted asked about his opinion of such rhetoric, to which he had to admit, Barack Obama is not a socialist.

President Barack Obama wants New York Governor David Paterson to step aside and withdraw his candidacy for the next NY Governor's race. The decision to ask Mr. Paterson to step aside was said to have been proposed by political advisers to President Obama, who gave his approval for the decision. The general election is still more than a year away, but Paterson's ratings are dismal.
