The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art at Kew Gardens, opening in spring 2008, will be the first gallery in the world dedicated to botanical art and open to the public all year round. The gallery, designed by award-winning architects Walters and Cohen, will exhibit precious works of art from the collections of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Dr Shirley Sherwood, many of which have never been on public display before.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) announces its Second Annual Lunar New Year Celebration & Flower Market, on Sunday, February 3 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. What better way to usher in 4705—the year of the Rat—than with an exciting program of Asian entertainment and a special cut-flower market featuring plants used in the Lunar New Year celebrations of China, Korea, and Vietnam?

Kew Botanical Gardens is leaping into 2008 with the biggest display of spring flowers in the country. Over 5 million flowering bulbs will melt away the winter and carpet the beautiful open spaces of Kew with a riot of colour. Two million blue, white and mauve crocuses (Crocus vernus) will greet visitors as they enter the grand Victoria Gate entrance of the Gardens.

A unique design by the architects of the London Eye will be unveiled at Kew Botanical Garden next week. When it opens in May 2008 it will be the most ambitious public installation at Kew for two decades.

The Fifth Annual Reindog Parade returns to the Chicago Botanic Garden on Saturday, Dec. 1 with visitors parading their pooches in holiday costume for prizes, awarded by celebrity judges. For four very special hours only, dogs are allowed in the Chicago Botanic Garden.

In honor of the Jewish harvest holiday Sukkot, the Chicago North Shore Section of the National Council of Jewish Women will display their annual sukkah display at the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Botanic Garden from Saturday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 7. Families are invited to take part in arts and crafts activities to decorate the sukkah from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30.

An exhibition featuring maps revealing the global travels of plant explorers will be on display in the Lenhardt Library located in the Regenstein Center at the Chicago Botanic Garden from Friday, November 2 through Sunday, February 10, 2008. The Chicago Botanic Garden is one of 25 Chicago area cultural institutions participating in the first citywide Festival of Maps.
