Kazakhstan mulls joining Russia-Bulgaria-Greece oil pipeline

Kazakhstan will soon start negotiations on joining a planned pipeline that will pump Russian oil to Europe via Bulgaria and Greece in order to increase Caspian oil exports to Europe, the energy minister said.

Bulgaria needs investments for second nuclear plant

National Electricity Company in Bulgaria invited potential strategic investors to acquire a share in a new nuclear power plant project in the country's northern part. The state-owned electricity company (NEK) said in a statement it was looking for investors for an up to 49 percent stake in the Belene Power Company, which will be set up to own and operate the nuclear power plant. NEK will hold a stake of at least 51 percent in it.

Bulgaria's unemployment rate stands at 8.92 percent

The unemployment rate in EU newcomer Bulgaria stood at 8.92 percent in March. The jobless rate in March was down by 0.56 percent from the previous month, and down by 1.92 percent from March 2006. The total number of unemployed in March stood at 330,270, or 20,905 less than in February.

Bulgaria and Romania - new member states of the European Union

The Accession Treaty with Bulgaria and Romania was signed on 25 April 2005 in Luxembourg, and has now been ratified by all 25 member states, as well as Bulgaria and Romania, so that the two countries can accede as planned on 1 January 2007. Prior to the signing, the European Commission (22 February 2005), the European Parliament (13 April 2005) and the Council (25 April 2005) had approved the application for accession pursuant to Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union.
