On February 26, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, arrived in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. Accompanying His Holiness and the pontifical delegation from Delhi were His Excellency Ashot Kocharian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia and Mr. Haik Sookias, Jr., Chairman of the Armenian Church Committee of Calcutta and Chinsurah.

From January 14-21, with the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, Very Rev. Fr. Oshagan Gulgulian, Manager of the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy of Calcutta and parish priest of the Armenian community of India, traveled to Jordan and Iraq to secure the safe travel of six Armenian children from Baghdad to Calcutta (Kolkata), India, to enroll in the Armenian College.

Armenians Today. As a result of the competition taken place on December 16 among choirs of about 10 Christian schools in Calcutta, India, the Armenian Philanthropic Academy's choir was recognized the best choir of the year and was awarded the honourary first prize.
