The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial is pleased to announce changes to the Wind Challenge Series. Beginning fall 2008, the Wind Challenge Exhibitions at Fleisher will be presented in three clusters of three artist shows, updating the present model of four clusters of three-artist exhibitions. The new arrangement will allow for six week exhibitions instead of the present four week format. Longer exhibit time will afford more opportunities for educational programming.

Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875) was a Buddhist nun, a woman of great beauty and one of Japan’s most celebrated artists. Admired primarily for her exquisite calligraphy, Rengetsu was also a poet and ceramic artist, often inscribing her poems in her own calligraphy onto ceramic vessels, a unique blending of art forms for any artist in Japanese history.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports from California. “Bay Area home sales nosedived to a 20-year low and median prices dropped nearly 10 percent last month. A total of 3,586 new and resale houses and condos traded hands in the nine-county Bay Area in January, down 41.9 percent from a year ago and 29.2 percent from December, according to DataQuick.
