Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival President Atom Egoyan was awarded the 34th Ecumenical Jury Prize for the humanistic values they discovered in Adoration, a film that explores cultural intolerance and misinformation.

This was a good last day at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Amongst the films receiving honours at the awards ceremony yesterday night were 4 films funded by the EU’s Media Programme: “Entre Les Murs” directed by Laurent Cantet (France) won the Palme d'Or, whilst “Gomorra” directed by Matteo Garrone (Italy), swept up the Grand Prize of the festival.

Clint Eastwood opens his 1920s-'30s set film Changeling in Cannes (Angelina Jolie as Christine Collins) with a period logo of its studio—here, Universal, with its silvery, Deco-esque depiction of a small plane circling the globe. The slight but noteworthy irony here is that this picture is nothing like a Universal production of that era, it is instead, very much like a Warner Brothers production of that era and beyond. (Eastwood just recently stopped hanging his producing hat at Warner's, alas.)

The Cannes Film Festival has screened "Rebellion: The Litvinenko Case," a documentary about former Russian intelligence officer Aleksandr Litvinenko, who was fatally poisoned in London in November 2006. The film's director, Andrei Nekrasov, and Litvinenko's widow, Marina, attended the premiere in Cannes on May 26.
