In January of 2007, General Motors (GM) unveiled a concept car powered solely by electricity. The Chevrolet Volt is a big step beyond today's hybrid, that uses both a gasoline engine and electric motor. VOA's John Birchard reports on the progress GM is making toward turning the Volt from an attractive idea into a production vehicle.

Russia's economics ministry and France's Peugeot Citroen signed an agreement Sunday to establish a car assembly, a project to require over 250 million euros in investment, Russia's economics minister said.

Ford Motor Co., Japanese affiliate Mazda and China's Changan Automotive Group began full production Thursday at a new engine plant in eastern China's Nanjing aimed at supplying the companies' expansions in the fast growing market.
