Google is planning a Chrome OS preview at its Mountain View headquarters on Thursday. While the OS won't launch until next year, the event will give Google the opportunity to give technical background as well as demos. Rumors, which last week said that Chrome OS was coming this week, turned to be true.

Release of the Google Chrome Operating System has been highly anticipated since its announcement back in July. Based on information received from a “reliable source” TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington says Chrome OS will be launched next week.

Google Chrome 3.0 is now available for download as the search giant continues to expand its line of products.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is likely downing a ton of aspirin this morning, as Google has announced that it is developing a PC operating system based on its Chrome browser.
