An international security meeting on Iraq has opened in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The two-day meeting reportedly focusess on ways to better control the Syria-Iraq border.

Despite criticism from U.S. President George W. Bush, the leading Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus today.
