French food group Danone, the leader in dairy products, announced that its net income tripled thanks to a 3.1 billion euros capital gain on the sale of its biscuit business and as it bought Dutch babyfood maker Numico.

On July 3rd Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE:KFT) announced that it has made a binding offer to acquire the global biscuit business of Groupe Danone (NYSE:DA) for EUR 5.3 billion ($7.2 billion) in cash.

Groupe Danone SA, which has faced difficulties with its joint venture partners in China and India, said Wednesday that Chinese authorities seized five containers of Evian water bottles in February because of concern over high bacteria levels.

The food producer, Groupe Danone SA, whose brands include Evian bottled water and Dannon yogurt, plans to delist its American Depositary Receipts from the New York Stock Exchange.
