The audience didn't seem to be any less appreciative of David Letterman on tonight's "The Late Show," as noted by a video posted on CBS.com. Don't think for a second that Dave wasn't aware what's on most people's minds. Prior to his monologue, he said the following:

This news just gives us the motive behind Robert J. Halderman's alleged blackmail plot against David Letterman. He was deep in debt. According to Assistant District Attorney Judy Salwen, Joe Halderman was in financial trouble.

Last night, after his monologue, David Letterman revealed he had been the victim of an attempted extortion. It wasn't until after relating the entire story that Letterman revealed what the blackmail was about: affairs with staffers. He didn't reveal any names, but they are starting to emerge, and in fact one is Stephanie Birkitt, who lived with alleged blackmailer Robert "Joe" Halderman.

David Letterman was extremely candid on his show Thursday night. Letterman admitted that he has had sexual relationships with female employees of his show. The admission comes after an extortion attempt for $2 million from someone involved with one of the women he had an affair with.

Earlier this year, Barack Obama became the first sitting president to appear on the "Tonight Show," when he appeared on the then Jay Leno-hosted show in March. Tonight he will appear on "The Late Show with David Letterman," becoming the first sitting president to appear on that show, as well.

It only took two tries, but Sarah Palin has finally accepted David Letterman's apology. You may recall that his first apology was just a little too snarky for Palin, who continued to criticize Letterman.

Let's hope this is the end of the David Letterman - Sarah Palin feud. While last week Letterman apologized, it was in a snarky sort of way, and wasn't accepted by Palin.

A jokester being protested about for telling jokes, with the masses out for his head (a.k.a. his job). Ridiculous or just desserts?

I am not ordinarily inclined to be concerned with a feud between a hack politician and a comedian. And this case would be no different, but for one factor: Letterman's jokes about Bristol Palin raise the question of sexism. Is the reaction of the Governor of Alaska sound? Or has she overblown a harmless series of jokes?

On Wednesday night, David Letterman addressed Sarah Palin's response to Monday night's Top Ten List, the "Top Ten Highlights of Sarah Palin's Trip to New York City," video seen here. Palin accused Letterman of making "disgusting" and "sexually perverted" jokes about one of her daughters, and also called one of his jokes about her looking like a "slutty flight attendant," "pretty pathetic."
