On Friday evening, October 11, 2008 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Neal Gittleman will explore the fascinating history of a symphony that Robert Schumann found hidden in an attic, a symphony that proved to be one of the finest ever composed.

The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra today announced that it has selected vocalist/pianist Diane Schuur to perform in the place of vocalist Jane Monheit on May 9 and 10, 2008 for Jazz Dreams, the sixth and final concert in the 2007-2008 National City SuperPops Series. Expecting a child in that same timeframe, Ms. Monheit is unable to fulfill her performance schedule.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, January 4 and 5 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Neal Gittleman will present Stay Tuned, featuring Five By Design, the inventive quintet that is the creative talent behind the musical theatre retrospective genre.

On December 2 at 3 pm in the Schuster Center, Patrick Reynolds – Assistant Conductor of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra – will lead the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in a program that will showcase the talents and musical abilities of some of the area’s best young musicians.

Witness the passing of the seasons with two best friends in the Broadway hit A Year with Frog and Toad, which opens Victoria Theatre Association’s 2007- 2008 Young at Heart Family Series at the Victoria Theatre, November 17 & 18. The hit Broadway musical A Year with Frog and Toad was nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

DOn Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10, the Schuster Center will be the scene of festivities celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra founder and Conductor Emeritus Paul Katz (November 2, 1907- August 31, 1989).

On Saturday, November 3 at 1:30 pm, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Quartet will perform a free concert at St. Patrick’s Church in Troy, Ohio. The DPO Principal Quartet consists of Acting Concertmaster Aurelian Oprea, Assistant Principal Cellist Christina Coletta, Principal Violist Sheridan Kamberger Currie, and Principal Second Violinist Kirstin Greenlaw.
