Regarded as a genius in his field, the pianist, composer and bandleader wrote such jazz standards as "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke." Bruebeck was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2007 he was honored with a BBC Jazz "Lifetime Achievement Award."

A hot June night is about to get even hotter. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra annual fundraising Gala serves up a sizzling, Latin-inspired season finale, ?Sinfonia Caliente! The centerpiece of the evening is a performance by the DSO led by conductor Thomas Wilkins and featuring one of the world's foremost performers of Latin-infused jazz, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. Also included are a tapas reception, a salsa-dancing afterglow and a nightclub.

Internationally-recognized Latin music ensemble The Mambo Kings will team up with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Jeff Tyzik for a unique concert series incorporating Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz rhythms with classical music.
