The 2007 Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, a collection of images from the world’s largest and most prestigious wildlife photography competition, makes its North American premiere at the Detroit Zoo’s Ford Education Center.

Things will be hopping at the Detroit Zoo in the coming year in celebration of all things amphibian as part of the global conservation community’s designation of 2008 as “Year of the Frog.” The cooperative campaign will focus attention on endangered amphibians and the critical work being done by zoos and aquariums to save them.

When the mall becomes a zoo this holiday season, shoppers can make the Detroit Zoo their mall. And the giver can give twice – recipients will love their unique gifts, and proceeds will help support the Detroit Zoological Society and preserve the world’s wildlife.

Everyone is invited to join Old St. Nick as he takes a breather from his busy holiday schedule to enjoy a delicious buffet-style waffle breakfast at the Detroit Zoo. The annual Breakfast with Santa will be held in the Zoo’s Wildlife Interpretive Gallery on three consecutive Saturdays, December 8, 15 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The Detroit Zoo’s annual “merry-not-scary” Zoo Boo celebration returns this Halloween season, featuring a festively decorated half-mile trick-or-treat trail through the front of the park. Presented by National City, Zoo Boo will be held on the evenings of October 19 to 21 and October 25 to 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., rain or shine.

The Detroit Zoo has always been a great place to discover wildlife, but now it’s also a great place to discover hidden treasure. The Zoo has joined the growing craze of geocaching by creating six caches, or hiding places, throughout the 125-acre park.

Changing leaves and cooler weather are sure signs of fall, and the Detroit Zoo is celebrating its arrival with the first-ever Fall Festival Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7.

A one-woman exhibition of over 170 color and black-and-white photographic images of nature and wildlife taken by Bloomfield Hills, Mich., photographer Judy Yaker will debut at the Detroit Zoo's Ford Education Center Exhibit Gallery September 21, 2007.

Senior citizens are invited to enjoy a special day at the Detroit Zoo on Senior Day, Wednesday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Seniors 62 and older and their caregivers will receive free admission, free parking and free rides on the Tauber Family Railroad.

The Detroit Zoo will celebrate Metro Detroit’s African community and culture at the African Festival on Saturday, August 25, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is part of Summer Festivals at the Detroit Zoo…Like Nowhere Else, presented by Comerica Charitable Foundation.

Two chimpanzees have joined the Great Apes of Harambee at the Detroit Zoo. Nyani, a 16-year-old female, and Kiri, a 17-year-old male, joined the Zoo from the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wis. The pair’s arrival expands the Detroit Zoo’s chimpanzee population to 10, including three males and seven females.

The Detroit Zoo is participating in the “Hands Along Woodward” event in honor of Woodward Avenue’s 200th Anniversary celebration with special discounts. On Sunday, August 19, the Zoo will offer $2 child admission with the purchase of regular adult admission, $2 parking, $2 Wild Adventure Ride tickets, and $2 off any gift shop purchase over $10.
