Audi is expanding the TT line with a new entry-level engine: the 1.8 TFSI. This highly efficient four-cylinder engine with turbocharger and direct injection, with 118 kW (160 hp) and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) torque, lends the TT Coupé and TT Roadster sporty performance. (GM) announced today an investment of $69 million in its DMAX plant in Moraine to manufacture a new Duramax 6.6-liter V-8 turbo diesel engine that will meet stringent emissions standards in 2010. DMAX Limited is a joint venture between GM and Isuzu Motors Limited and was established as a diesel engine company in 1998.

Cleaner diesels thanks to laser light

Measuring soot formation in a diesel engine is far from easy. Due to the turbulent environment in the combustion cylinder, no two combustion cycles are the same. Furthermore, the measurements are difficult to reproduce as the pressure at which fuel is injected into the cylinder causes an extra source of turbulence.
