Each year about 13,000 people die on U.S. roads and highways in speed-related traffic accidents. A group of state governors says 35 jurisdictions are now using automatic speed cameras. Government and insurance industry officials argue such cameras not only catch speeders, they slow down drivers and save lives. Paul Sisco has this searching for solutions report.

Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) records show the Thanksgiving holiday rates near the top for crash-related fatalities. For the most current 10 years in Iowa, traffic deaths over the Thanksgiving weekend averaged five fatalities, with two of the five fatalities involving alcohol. Of the six holidays tracked by the Iowa DOT, Thanksgiving is the third deadliest for both total fatalities and fatalities involving alcohol.
