The state of Washington is one of five states selected to participate in a 36 month study, funded by $100 million grant from the Department of Energy under the Economic Recovery Program. The state hopes to use some of the funds to eventually begin construction of an “electric car corridor” which could run from Eugene Oregon to Vancouver British Columbia.

California based advanced technology car maker Fisker Automotives is awareded $528 million Department of Energy loan to develop plug-in hybrid cars. The measure will help Fisker, which is Tesla's main rival, to create 5.000 jobs in total. Those jobs also will be saved in the domestic parts supplier companies. The first car will be called Fisker Karma, the second stage of the project will be called Fisker Nina.

GM this morning announced that its new Chevy Volt will get the U.S. drivers 230 miles per gallon, making it the first U.S. mass-produced car that will allow more than 100 miles per gallon.
