National Electricity Company in Bulgaria invited potential strategic investors to acquire a share in a new nuclear power plant project in the country's northern part. The state-owned electricity company (NEK) said in a statement it was looking for investors for an up to 49 percent stake in the Belene Power Company, which will be set up to own and operate the nuclear power plant. NEK will hold a stake of at least 51 percent in it.

Scientists have devised a way for brewery waste water to generate electricity - by using sugar-consuming bacteria. The experimental technology was unveiled Wednesday by scientists at Australia's University of Queensland, which was given a 140,000 Australian dollar (US$115,000; EURO 85,000) state government grant to install a microbial fuel cell at a Foster's Group brewery near Brisbane, the capital of Queensland state.

According to Friday's Nuclear Market Review (NMR), many market participants were left stunned by the recent record jump in the weekly spot uranium price.
